Buenos Aires in bullet points

September 10th, 2008

Things to see:

  • Dog shit on all the sidewalks.
  • Taxi drivers that all look like college literature professors.
  • The feral cat colony in the city’s botanical garden.
  • The Sunday street fair in San Telmo.
  • The stray dogs that obey the crosswalk lights.
  • The professional dog walkers.
  • The zoo, unless it’s a Monday: it’s closed then.

Things to taste:

  • The local beer, Quilmes, which is devoid of any hops flavoring and flat tasting.
  • Parrillada, especially the blood sausage.
  • Empanadas.
  • Coffee and a “sandwich miga con queso y jamon” for breakfast.
  • The burgers: a fried egg stacked on meat and cheese. Awesome.
  • A submarino, the local version of a hot chocolate.
  • The “pasta”, which is mushy and pasty white in color.

Buenos Aires

September 5th, 2008

Landed in Buenos Aires around 8am local time this morning. Other than traffic, things don’t get started until around 11am. Puttered around Palermo Viejas until noon, when we finally crashed at our hostel. Need to catch up on rest before we head out tonight. Also trying my darndest to train my ear to Spanish as quickly as possible.
